How to Review Your Business Spending
Business expenses can slowly increase without attracting much attention.
At least once a month, review the purchases and automatic charges from your business accounts. Look atwhere the money went and whether each expense is still useful.
Ask these questions:
Do I still use this service?
Has the price increased?
Am I paying for two tools that do the same thing?
Was this purchase necessary?
Is this expense helping the business operate?
Is there a less expensive option?
Pay special attention to small recurring charges. A $25 monthly subscription may not seem significant, but it becomes $300 over a year.
Do not cut expenses only because they appear high. Some large costs may be essential and valuable. The purpose of the review is to understand the spending, not automatically eliminate it.
It can also help to compare spending with previous months. A sudden increase in supplies, advertising, delivery costs, or service fees may deserve attention.
Regular spending reviews help you make deliberate decisions instead of allowing expenses to continue unnoticed.
